Antique Silver Airedale Terrier Brooch

Brooch made of antique silver oxidized brass in the shape of a Fox Terrier in Victorian style. It has a small synthetic black diamond as eye. This pinback brooch is about 35x40mm (about 1-11/32" wide and 1-9/16" tall).

This little terrier was a very popular breed of dog in the Victorian era and is often depicted in art from that time. The reason for its popularity was mostly due to its extraordinary skill at rat hunting and a common entertainment in those days was contests deciding which dog could kill the most rats in a given time, of course with people placing bets as to the outcome. A good ratter was very valuable and could earn a lot of money for its master.

Item No b05009.
